CHINESE RAILWAYS
THE LOSSES OF BRITISH BONDHOLDERS STRONG PROTEST TO JAPAN (British Official Wireless). RUGBY, May 23. Mr R. A. Butler, Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs, told the House of Commons that the strongest representations had been made to the Japanese Government and the Japanese authorities in Shanghai regarding losses that had been suffered by British bondholders as a result of the Japanese military occupation of the ShanghaiNanking and other railways. He stated that the Japanese Government had been asked to make the necessary financial arrangements for the continued service of railway loans.
Repeated requests had also been made that British engineers should be allowed ito inspect the line of the Shanghai-Nanking railway.
