MAINTENANCE ORDER
BLOMFIELD APPLIES FOR REDUCTION. EARNINGS IN AMERICA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, May 24. Meynell Blomfield, known in wrestling circles as '‘Lofty,” appeared today in a legal contest, with the magistrate, Mr J. L. Walton, adjudicating, when he made application for a reduction in a maintenance order in favour of his former wife and two children, totalling £4 10s a week. It was made when he obtained a divorce 12 months ago. In evidence he said he kept up the payments until his American trip, which resulted in a financial loss. During the trip his present wife was operated on and he had to borrow £250, reaching home with four dollars in his pocket. Hix taxable income in the United States was 450 dollars, his gross earnings being 950 dollars, including 250 dollars for the world championship bout. His Canadian earnings totalled 700 dollars. He still owed £l5O on the American debt. He claimed that his former wife frequently pestered him with summonses before bouts and much of his money had gone in defending court actions. After legal argument the case was adjourned for further argument.
