A resident of Titirangi, Auckland, in a part of the bush not much frequented by tuis, set up an attraction for the birds in the form of small phials of honey attached with red ribbons to the spent blossom stalk of flax. For several days, the experiment, which was staged only a few feet from the cottage door, appeared to be a failure; then a tui was observed to approach unheralded in the early dawn and make himself very much at home, enjoying a hearty breakfast.
