CARTERTON
PERSONAL ITEMS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr E. Wilkins, jun., of Carterton, who recently underwent an operation for appendicitis in the Greytown Hospital, is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. The Rev W. F. Stent, of Carterton, has been re-elected President of the N.Z. Poultry Producers Federation. Mr Stent was the first President of the Federation, and after a three year occupation of the office has been elected for a further term. ENJOYABLE PARCEL EVENING. A very enjoyable function took place last evening at the Masonic Hall, Carterton, when the friends of Miss Jean Hume, of Ahiakouka, Greytowri, tendered her a parcel evening in honour of her approaching marriage. The proceedings passed very happily with dancing, and at an interval in the proceedings Mr Alex McPhee, of Clareville, called upon Miss Hume to open the many gift parcels, which she did amidst applause and musical honours. Mr Keith Allen, son of Mr and Mrs' G. E. Allen, of “Tipua,” Taratahi, briefly replied on behalf of Miss Hume and his own behalf, thanking everyone for their kindness and expressions of goodwill. Included in those present was Mrs Hume, mother of Miss Jean Hume, Mr and Mrs G. E. Allen, parents of the bridegroom elect, and also Mr W. B. Allen (his grandfather), who, although approaching his century in age, took part in the dancing. The ladies provided an excellent supper and a jolly evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang -Syne” and the National Anthem.
