CHRISTCHURCH BLAZE
STATEMENTS REFUTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, This Day. The following statement has been received from the head office of MacDuffs: “In connection with the fire in our Christchurch premises in Upper Colombo Street and reports which have been made through leading newspapers concerning our loss, I have been instructed to refute certain statements as misleading and incorrect. Actually all our losses were adequately covered under their various headings and the total cover exceeds £58,900.”
The statement also denies the report that the members of the staff of the shop destroyed in Christchurch have been dismissed for a period of six months.
