DAMAGED THEATRE

RECONSTRUCTION PLANS IN CHRISTCHURCH

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 23.

Reconstruction of the State Theatre, Christchurch, will be started as soon as possible, according to Mr John Bates, Auckland, managing director of John Bates and Company, Ltd., owners of the property. Mr Bates left for Christchurch by the Limited Express. The theatre was built by the company in 1935 to the specifications of Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., who took a long lease. The cost, including furnishings, was about £lB,OOO and John Bates and Company have this covered to the extent of £lO,OOO by a policy with Lloyd's. Equipment and furnishings, owned by Amalgamated Theatres, arc insured with the Royal Insurance Company, Ltd.
