ANXIOUS DAYS
FEARS OF MORE UPHEAVALS IN MEXICO MOUNTAIN AREA FORTIFIED BY GENERAL CEDILLO LATE EVENTS MINIMISED BY OFFICIALS By Telegraph —Press Association. Copyright. NEW YORK, May 22. . The realisation that Mexico may be on the eve of a new revolutionary period has spread anxiety throughout the capital, with emphasis on the possibility that the outbreak headed by General Cedillo will afford an opportunity to other anti-Government groups to join the movement says the Mexico City correspondent of the “New York Times.” Official sources continue to minimise the recent events, reiterating that General Cedillo is not supported so far by a single member of the army, and also that there is no sign of support from any section of the country besides the San Luis Potosi area, which admittedly is in the hands of the rebels. Officials insist that only President Cardenas’s desire to avoid bloodshed has prevent the cleaning out of this territory, but an inspection discloses that General Cedillo has strongly fortified the mountain areas, indicating that it will be a length and arduous, perhaps even impossible, task to dislodge him. It is understood that fortified aerodromes have been built at several mountain strongholds. General Codillo at present commands a fleet of 57 fighting planes. It is believed that a recent report that General Cedillo was going to the Unted States was due to a secret flight to one of these, strongholds Federal troops occupied General Cedillo’s Los Palomas ranch headquarters, which were found abandoned, presumably because they lacked strategic importance. It is reported that Senor Mateo Netro, Governor of San Luis Potosi, fled from the capital and joined the rebels. , President Cardenas is using the Governor’s palace as his headquarters.
