The Hon D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, returned to Wellington from the south today. The Hon H. T .Armstrong, Minister of Labour, returned to Wellington from Christchurch today. The Hon H. G. R. Mason, AttorneyGeneral, returned to Wellington from Auckland today.
The Hon P. C. Webb. Minister of Mines, is expected to return to Wellington tomorrow.
The Hon W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, is expected to return to Wellington from Sydney on Thursday.
The death occurred at Hastings yesterday of Mr Joseph Henry Harris, who, as a farmer, cattle-breeder and cattle-dealer,, was a well known figure in Hawke’s Bay. He was 75 years of age. So extensive were his cattledealing operations that he became known as “the cattle king.”
Mr Ivan M. Levy, a well-known Wellington journalist, has been appointed official secretary to His Imperial Japanese Majesty’s Consulate-General, recently established at Wellington by Mr K. Gunji, Consul-General. Mr Levy was personal secretary to the former Japanese Trade Correspondent, Mr K. Kubota Ametanifi, for the period during which he was stationed in New Zealand.
An Oamaru Press Association message states that Mrs Jane Winfield Lee, who died at Nelson yesterday, was the widow of the late Hon E. P. Lee, who was a member of Parliament for Oamaru and Minister of Justice in the Rt Hon W. F. Massey's Cabinet. She was a daughter of the late Mr J. Lambert, Oamaru, and was a very keen supporter of the Anglican Church and the Girl Guides.
In future a new name will appear or: all certificates approving the release of films throughout the Dominion. It is that of Mr W. A. von Keisenberg, who has been appointed censoi' and registrar of cinematograph films in sucession to Mr W. A. Tanner, who has retired on superannuation after 44 years in the Public Service. Mr von Keisenberg, who was born at Wanganui in 1881, and who was educated at public schools and at Cornford's Private School, Wellington, first joined the Public Service in 1904, being appointed to the Railways Department. In 1908 he was transferred to the Electoral Department. and in 1913 to the Department of Internal Affairs, where he was appointed officer-in-charge of the Government advertising office in 1920, and assistant film censor in 1929.
