GOLD MINING RETURNS The Mataki dredge return for the week ended May 22 was 37 ounces for 131 hours’ work, and 9500 cubic yards. The Goldfields Dredging Co. advises a wash-up of 270 z for 122 hours’ dredging. MARTHA OPERATIONS. The following information has been cabled to London: — For the period ended- May 7, comprising 17 crushing days, 14,584 tons of ore were crushed for a result of 3289 fine ounces of gold, and 29,973 fine ounces of silver. This includes 145 tons mined from the Grand Junction area, which yielded 28 fine ounces gold and 130 fine ounces silver. Number 5 Level: Lode at 85ft. in Taylor north crosscut. Driving east the next 36ft. is formation varying from 2ft. to sft. in width. The value is irregular. Number 6 Level: North branch of Martha lode. The next 15ft. up Espir Rise is ore of good grade with the north wall only seen.
