GOOD DAY FOR MOTORING Yesterday being a day of bright sunshine, countless motorists and their friends spent the day “behind the wheel.” Whereas on the outward journey, the traffic is spread out during the morning, and early afternoon, the homeward one with most motorists, seemed to be timed so as to arrive back just before nightfall. Consequently, yesterday between 4.30 and 5.30 o’clock there was a continuous stream of motor traffic, the noise of the engines of the cars developing into a veritable roar, which was very apparent to residents whose homes are situated within easy distance of the Main Highway. Traffic over the hill to Wellington was also very dense, and an actual traffic jamb occurred in the vicinity of Maori Bank. AN EXTENDED AUTUMN. Visitors who have just returned from the Taranaki district report that Mount Egmont, which is usually well covered with snow at this time of i the year, has at the present time mere-' ly a brief covering on the top of the crater. It is evident that Wairarapa is not the only district which is experiencing an extended autumn.
