■'The democracies have no reason to give way in Europe,” declared M Reynaud, at Leeds, at the conclusion of the congress of the Alliance Francaise. “Their potential war strength infinitely exceeds that of possible opponents, while their supplies of raw material amount in certain cases to virtual control of markets. Mastership of the sea and of gold reserves will enable democracies to obtain supplies from all over the world, but these advantages do not prevent the necessity of preparations, which the armaments of others impose.”
