FINGERS LARGER
BIGGER RINGS FOR BRIDES. It takes more gold to make a wed-ding-ring to fit the finger of the modern bride, states a London- message. Reason is that women’s hands are becoming larger, their fingers stronger and less “waisted.” Miss 1938 has to soap her fingers to squeeze on a ring belonging to her mother, and it is. impossible for her to wear rings worn by her grandmother. If things go on this way Miss 2000 will wear man-sized rings. “The increase in size of women’s fingers represents an increase of several thousand pounds to the trade,” said a well-known West End jeweller. “But,” he added regretfully, “it doesn’t counterbalance the losses we have suffered because of the modern type of wedding-ring, which is only a quarter of the width of the old-fash-ioned ones.” Why women have larger fingers ■ is still undetermined. Some “blame” sport, some typewriting and secretarialwork.
