ACTIVE DEMAND
AT LONDON WOOL SALES HARDENING THROUGHOUT SERIES. RISE IN PRICES EXCEPT FOR SLIPES. (Recd This Day, 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, May 20. At the wool sales, 7,361 bales were offered including 4,081 from New Zealand and 5,051 were sold. A moderate miscellaneous selection met with an active demand. Slipes and inferior grades were heavily withdrawn owing to high limits. Throughout the series, 69,700 bales have been offered and 59,000 sold. There has been a hardening tendency throughout. Compared with the closing of the previous series, prices were* from par to 5 per cent higher, excepting for slipes, which were from 5 to 10 per cent lower. New Zealand greasy crossbred. Opou, brought 9d to HJd; Paparatu, 9d to lOJd; scoured halfbred combing. Stoneleigh, 23.jd. A total of 16,000 bales of Australian wool and 28,500 of New Zealand were sold; 34,500 bales of Australian wool and 21,500 bales of New Zealand being held over.
