land last year and again in 1938 His Highness appears to be in. the same happy position. At the Newmarket Craven meeting last month, the filly Yakimour, by Blenheim from Una, by Tetratema, won the Fitzwilliam Stakes, of five furlongs, by eight lengths in 1.1 1-5. On the second day, the colt Dhoti, by Dastur from Tricky Aunt, by Son-in-Law, scored in the Granby Stakes and recorded the same time as did Yakimour. Both winners are trained by Frank Butters, who has 32 youngsters in his stables this year.
The following event on the second day’s card, the Wood Ditton Stakes, of a mile, was won by Faris 11, by Dastur from Firouze Ranee, by Son-in-Law. This three-year-old colt was bred by the Aga Khan, but is owned by Mr E. Esmond.
The Ellerslie trainer, K. Kirk, has taken in hand a well-grown yearling colt by the unbeaten Gay Crusader horse Kincardine from Marchaway, the dam of Marching Song and School Song.
A further recent addition to R. S. Bagby’s large team is the two-year-'old colt Veritable, who is by Sun Flare from Titaness. Veritable started several times early in the season, but gave the impression that he would do better next season.
The Te Awamutu filly Fleur d’Or, •who has been at Ellerslie since Easter, has attracted attention lately by her good trials in company with her stablemate, Tonnerre. A three-year-old by Vaals from Gold Bud, this filly has npt done much racing, but in her last
start at the Avondale meeting, she shaped very encouragingly and looked a likely improver. Fleur d’Or is engaged in. the., second division ,of the Otorohanga Handicap at Te Rapa today.
Night Dress looks in beautiful order in which to resume more serious work. It remains to be seen if the three-year-old improves as a racing proposition as a gelding, but his appearance suggests that he is a much better horse than he has so far shown. .He needs only to come back to the promise he showed as a two-year-old for him to earn much distinction.
