A Rugby League football trial match played at Carlaw Park this afternoon between Auckland and the Rest of the North Island proved very one-sided, Auckland winning by 67 to 14. The match’was disappointing to the selectors, who were looking for talent for the inter-island game next Saturday and also for possibilities for the New Zealand team which is to tour Australia this year. RANFURLY SHIELD CHALLENGE. CHRISTCHURCH, May 17. The Canterbury touring representative Rugby team will play Southland for the Ranfurly Shield on August 6 if the trophy is still in Southland’s possession on that date. The management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union, at a meeting tonight, received confirmation of this arrangement from the Southland union.
