COMPENSATING PRICE

MANAWATU FARMERS FAVOUR SCHEME SERIES OF ADDRESSES (By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON NORTH, May 17. The campaign being conducted by Mr E. C. Roberts, Hamilton, on the compensatory price scheme for farmers is receiving considerable support in the Manawatu district. To date Mr Roberts has appeared at nine meetings involving an attendance of 250 farmers, and at each meeting motions endorsing the objects of the campaign have been carried. Many dairy companies have also approved of the scheme and have promised to give consideration to the financial aspects at their respective annual meetings. Mr Roberts has held meetings at Waikanae, Levin, Otaki, Rangiotu, Aokautere, Shannon, Ohau and Tokomaru. and at his meeting at Opiki last night the following motion, moved by Mr G. Alright and seconded by Mr S. Claridge. was carried unanimously: “That this meeting, realising the only real justice for the primary producer lies in a system of compensating prices, pledges itself to use every endeavour to further the campaign.” Among the dairy company directors and suppliers who have decided to support the campaign are those of the Rangiotu, Manawatu Reliance, Bainesse, Awahuri, Kairanga, Shannon, Levin, Kuku-Manakau, Te Horo and

Opiki factories. Further meetings are to be held in other parts of the district this week.
