FARMERS’ UNION

CONFERENCE AT AUCKLAND. LOSSES FROM FACIAL ECZEMA. By Telegraph—Press Association. ... ' AUCKLAND, May 17. More than 120 delegates from all parts of the province attended the annual Auckland Provincial Conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, which opened today. The agenda embraces 82 remits, and the conference is expected to conclude on Friday. Mr W. W. Mulholland, Dominion president, opened the conference, over which Mr H. O. Mellsop, Auckland president, is presiding. Commenting on. the outbreak of facial eczema among flocks and herds, causing some farmers from 50 to 100 per cent losses, Mr Mellsop stressed the-point for which they always contended; that any fixation of the guaranteed price for a year “is absolutely inadequate unless full provision is made for depreciation of stock and ample provision for reserves in case of ■ emergency.”
