POLICY ENDORSED

HELP FOR CHILD WELFARE ORGANISATIONS GRANTS BY THE TRUST “I do not regard this in the light of criticism of the Truitt, but merely an endorsement of our policy,” remarked Mr J. Macfarlane Laing, when referring at last night’s meeting of the Trust Lands Trust to the following motion on behalf of Mr C. E. Daniell: “In the opinion of this meeting the provision by the Trust, for such domestic affairs as the Plunket Society and the Dental Clinic would be in keeping with the aspirations of the founders of th Trust endowment.” Mr A. O. Jones, a member of the Trust, said that both the Plunket Society and the Dental Clinic had received generous treatment from the Trust in .the past. Trustees had no desire to cut off the grants, but had been forced into the position, as they did not know what expenditure they would have to face in connection with the Opera House. Mr F. C. Daniell: “The motion is an endorsement of the Trust policy and is not intended as criticism.” After stating that child welfare was an important concern of the Trust, Mr Laing paid a tribute to the keen interest maintained in the Trust by Mr C. E. Daniell. Mr R. C. Drummond congratulated the Trustees on their sound administration. The benefits of the Scholarship grants had been far-reaching. Mr Laing was congratulated on his comprehensive review of the past year’s work, as reported in another column.
