“STROKE OF LUCK”

ART UNION DRAWN LAST NIGHT BIG PRIZES TO AUCKLAND (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Most noticeable in the drawing of the “Stroke of Luck” art union last night, was the success of Auckland ticketholders. First prize of £2OOO, second of £5OO and third of £2OO went to Auckland city and suburban addresses. Fourth and fifth, of £lOO and £75 respectively, were drawn for butts of tickets purchased in Christchurch. The fourth-prize butt, however, bears no name or address. Wellington district did not receive any large prizes, and only three out of the 30 £lO prizes were drawn for butts bearing Wellington addresses.

The list of prize-winners is as fol-

First Prize, £2OOO: —44171, “Lucky Strike,” 86 Shortland Street, Auckland. Second Prize, £5OO, 194420, “Tuingara,” Remuera. Third Prize, £200:—204462, “Gren,” G.P.0., Auckland. Fourth Prize, £lOO: —120354, blank, Christchurch butt.

Fifth Prize, £75:—120796, “Hospital Birds,” Christchurch. Among the winners of £5 prizes were:—F. Simmons, Tora Station, Martinborough; “Just. One More,” Masterton; “Search Me Again,” D. Thompson, Eketahuna; “First Time Palmerston,” P.O. Masterton.

AUCKLAND FRUITERER WINNER OF FIRST PRIZE (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 16. First prize in the “Stroke of Luck” art union, drawn at Wellington, was won by Mr and Mrs Axel Johnson, who conduct a fruiterer’s shop at 86 Shortland Street, Auckland. They were first informed of their success by a customer who came to the shop, but for a long time could not believe it was true. Only when the news had been confirmed were they assured of their good fortune. Mr and Mrs Johnson have taken tickets in art union for many years, but this is their first win. As yet they have made no plans for the future.
