A Press Association message from Wellington announces the death of Mr J. A. Connell, a veteran journalist, aged 81. Born in Ireland Mr Connell came to New Zealand in his youth and joined the police. He later became a journalist, editing papers in Timaru, Blenheim, Nelson, Greymouth Masterton and Gisborne. Mr Connell was keenly interested in horse-breed-ing also chess and for some years he was secretary to the New Zealand Chess Association.
The Imperial regalia of Japan consists of a sword, a mirror, and a jewel. There is no crown.
