“IMPOTENT FURY”
SIGNOR MUSSOLINI’S LITTLE STORY REFUSAL TO ACT JOINTLY WITH DEMOCRACIES. AGAINST GERMAN SEIZURE OF AUSTRIA. GENOA, May 14. In his first speech since Herr Hitler's visit, Signor Mussolini disclosed that at the time of the Austrian anschluss he rejected a proposal for joint action, for which reason the anti-Fas-cist Powers abandoned themselves to an explosion of impotent fury. They had evidently wished for a clash between the two totalitarian States. “Stresa will never return,” he added. "We could not have achieved what we have done without the loyal friendship of Germany, collaroration with whom will leave its impress on the century. “In the event of an ideological war it should be known that the authoritarian States form a bloc and will march together. “We intend to respect the AngloItalian agreement scrupulously. Mr Chamberlain’s last speech was a recognition of the power of Italy."
