HOCKEY
WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION COMPETITIONS. ANOTHER WIN FOR CARTERTON. The Wairarapa Hockey Association’s championship fixtures were advanced a stage further on Saturday, the conditions being ideal. Some fast hockey was witnessed. In the senior division Carterton carried on their winning form to beat Wesley by 6/2. This game was played at Lansdowne ano a fast, spectacular contest resulted. Carterton did not have things all their own way but were more finished in their circle work, hence their good win. Wesley are improving with every match and with a little more combination will hold their own in future. Greytown made their appearance for the first time and though “green” made quite a good showing against Dalefield but went under by 5/0. There were no surprises in the junior division, except that Wesley B ran all over Dalefield to win by 6/0. Wesley A and College A both ran up good scores against Greytown and College B, respectively. These two teams meet next Saturday. Results are: —
Senior Men. —Carterton beat Wesley, 6/2; Dalefield beat Greytown, 5/0; Kiwi, a bye. Junior. —College A beat College B, 11/0; Wesley A beat Greytown, 8/0; Wesley B beat Dalefield, 6/0.
WOMEN’S GAMES. The Wairarapa Women’s Association’s fixtures were advanced a stage further on Saturday, when most of the teams showed better form. Excelsior maintained their unbeaten record by defeating College by 9/1. Excelsior gained a 6-nil lead in the first spell, but in the second College gave them a much harder game. College are improving and wilL be heard of again. Excelsior had had quite enough at the finish.
Kiwi and Greytown played a drawn game at Greytown, 1 all. Greytowp ■started off very poorly and it looked like a good win for Kiwi. Kiwi, however, failed to gain the advantage and could only secure a one-goal lead in the first spell. Greytown came to light in the second session and had Kiwi hard pressed. The defence held well against great odds and Greytown just managed to score the equalising goal in the last few minutes of play. Carterton and Te Ore Ore played a drawn game at Lansdowne, 2 all. Both these teams are improving, specially Carterton, who with a little coaching will make a good team. Te Ore Ore are unlucky with their team. Several
