MRS WILLS MOODY

TO PLAY AT WIMBLEDON AGAIN. LONDON, March 25. ‘T’m thrilled at the prospect,” said Mrs Helen Wills Moody with reference to her decision to make another attack on Wimbledon in June, after an absence of three years (says the "Daily Mail”).

Speaking on the long-distance telephone from her Californian home, Mrs Moody, who is 32, stated: "I never felt in better health, and am sure I shall be able to stand’ the fatigue of matches.

“I shall leave early in May, play in some preliminary tournaments in England, in the Wightman Cup matches, and then Wimbledon.

“After practising every day, I am confident I have my old speed and strength of stroke, but, of course, I cannot really tell until I meet opponents on the courts.” Mrs Wills Moody is very keen to win at Wimbledon this year. “If I do- so, then I will have created a fresh record of being champion eight times,” she says.

“At present Mrs Lambert Chambers (nee Miss D. K. Dounglas) and myself are equal with seven. Mlle. Lenglen, as you know, won at Wimbledon six times.”

Mrs Moody last won the title in 1935. She did not compete in 1934. The American team to defend the Wightman Cup against Britain will be: Mrs Wills Moody, Miss Alice Marble, Miss Helen Jacobs, Miss Dorothy Bundy, and Mrs Sarah Palfrey Fabyan with Miss Gracyn Wheeler as reserve. Last year America won by six matches to one.
