HELIUM SUPPLIES

NONE FROM UNITED STATES FOR GERMANY DR. VON ECKENER KEENLY DISAPPOINTED (By Telegraph—Press Association). WASHINGTON, May 11. It is announced that President Roosevelt feels that he is powerless under the law to override the object of the Secretary of the Interior, Mi’ H. L. Ickes, to the export of helium to Germany, although the five other members of Cabinet who make up the National Munitions Control Board do not agree with Mr Ickes’s contention that the quantity contemplated for sale to Germany is of military importance, and thus not able to be exported. A sale is possible only if the board unanimously approves.

Dr von Eckener, in a statement, expressed keen disappointment at the President's decision. He does not see how it will be possible to maintain the operation of Zeppelin traffic and fears it will be necessary to disband the service, entailing the dismissal of the trained personnel. “It means the death sentence to commercial lighten-than-air craft,” he added.
