GROWTH OF RADIO

POPULARITY IN CANADA. OTTAWA, Canada. Radio receiving licences issued by the Canadian Government numbered 1,088,783 in the eleven months of the current fiscal year to the end of February. ■ This is 50,028 more than the 1,038,500 issued in the twelve months of the preceding fiscal year. These figures indicate the ever-growing popularity of the radio in Canada. It is most appreciated in the isolated cabins and posts of trappers, police officers and fur traders. in the vicinity of the Arctic Circle.

In the more populated centres and in the settled farming districts, the radio is today helping to create in Canada a better appreciation for good music and for the spoken drama and it is also encouraging an interest in world affairs. In addition, information of value to farmers is broadcast regularly thus enabling them to keep acquainted with current prices and demand for their products.

The Canadian Government issues free radio receiving licences to all blind persons.. During the 11 months of the current fiscal year, 3155 such licences were issued.
