BILL TO INCREASE SALARIES IN AUSTRALIA

PRE-DEPRESSION RATES RESTORED (Recd This Day, 11.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, May 12. A Bill to increase the salaries of members of Parliament and Ministers and to provide a special allowance for the Prime Minister, has been passed by the House of Representatives. The effect of the Bill will be to restore members' salaries to the pre-de-pression rate of £lOOO a year, to raise the Prime Minister’s allowance to approximately £4OOO a year, and to increase the allowance to the Speaker and to the President of the Senate from £1942 to £2300.
