HITLER’S RETURN
WELCOMED LIKE CONQUERING HERO TRUMPETS & ILLUMINATIONS. QUICK PASSAGE THROUGH SOUTH TYROL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 11.45 a.m.) BERLIN, May 10. ' Herr Hitler was welcomed home like a conquering hero. Enormous crowds burst into cheering as he detrained and greeted Marshal Goering, whereupon 400 Hitler Youth trumpeters fanfared. Italian and German flags everywhere draped fire-crowned pylons along the River Spree, searchlights flooding the streets through which the Fuehrer drove, with blazing lights, multi-coloured fireworks and saluting guns. Deafening hails accompanied Herr Hitler’s entry into the Chancellery. In order to avoid offending his hosts, Herr Hitler did not halt in crossing the South Tyrol, crowds of Austrians merely glimpsing his speeding train. After crossing the Brenner Pass, the train slowed down, enabling the crowds to see Herr Hitler, who is exceedingly sun-tanned and robust. Every station was decked with flowers. Hen- Hitler frequently alighted to receive addresses of loyalty. STROKE AT VATICAN. DENUNCIATION OF CONCORDAT EXPECTED. (Recd This Day, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON, May 10. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Berlin correspondent says that most likely Herr Hitler will denounce the Concordat with the Vatican as a result of the Pope’s attitude while Her Hitler was in Italy.
