\ HONG KONG, May 10. A message from Amoy states that the greater part of the town is going up in smoke after a bombardment. Tokio claims that a large force of Japanese landed, routed the Chinese and occupied the eastern part of the island.

Amoy is on the south-eastern coast of China, in the Province of Fukien.
