Lord Halifax, in a statement to the League Council regarding the AngloItalian Pact declared that it was a contribution to world peace, thereby serving League interests. M Bonnet (France) said he and M Daladier were satisfied of the value of the- agreement and hoped that a favourable FrancoItalian understanding would further the cause of peace. M Litvinoff (Russia) declared that in view of the pact’s important repercussions on world problems, including that of Abyssinia, he reserved judgment. The council, after hearing Dr Wellington Koo (China) adjourned at 5 p.m. HAILE SELASSIE. ABSENT FROM GENEVA OWING j TO ILL-HEALTH. GENEVA, May 10. Haile Selassie’s non-appearance at the sessions of the League Council is due to his ill-health.
