SPIRITED BIDDING
DEMAND AT MASTERTON SALE. BREEDING EWES SELL WELL. The exceptional demand from outside buyers for good breeding ewes was a feature of today’s Masterton stock sale. There was a big yarding of good quality and a large bench of buyers were operating actively. It was a keen sale throughout. Values for good fat ewes showed an advance of up to 2s 6d on the last sale, while other classes made ruling market rates. Fat wethers sold at from 22s to 265. while forward b.f. 2-ths. made up to 245. Fat and forward 2-ths brought 18s 6d to 23s 9d; light fat ewes made from 17s 4d to 18s 7d and heavy fat ewes from 24s 6d to 255. A fine line of 172 4-th., 6-th. and 4-yr. ewes, running with Southdown rams, sold at 33s Id. Sound mouth ewes in lamb brought from 17s to 24s 6d, and mixed aged ewes up to 22s 3d.
