TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
MEETING IN MASTERTON. ARTS AND CRAFTS DEMONSTRATION. Once more there was a record attendance at the meeting of the Masterton Townswomen’s Guild, held in the Arcade Hall yesterday afternoon. Mrs W. H. Judd (president) welcomed many new members. The ten minutes’ Travel Talk by Mrs J. Robertson, who spoke on the scenic attractions of Rotorua, was much appreciated. The Guild exhibition table displayed a large number of souvenirs of New Zealand travel and Maori goods, which were admired by all. The newly-formed Singing Circle sang two tuneful rounds, and Miss D. O’Donnell, leader of the Circle, sang ‘‘The Blacksmith,” by Brahms, these items being well received. Miss M. C. Maddever, of Wellington, then gave a most informative demonstration on various arts and crafts, including parchment lamp shades and the French polishing of hand-painted wooden articles. Miss Madever also displayed a large variety of finished articles in cariework, pewter, etc., which created great interest. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Madclever for her demonstration.
Buffet afternoon tea and the singing of the Guild Ode brought the meeting to a conclusion.
