FLOOD DISASTER
HELP FOR HAWKE'S BAY SUFFERERS. BALL TO RAISE FUNDS PROPOSED. (To the Editor.) Sir, —Having just returned from the Hawke’s Bay district, I realise that the magnitude of the recent flood disasters is not fully appreciated by those more fortunate people who live outside this province. The tremendous destruction caused recently has left many hundreds faced with the unenviable prospect of penury. With a desire to effect some (even if it be a small) measure of relief, it is my suggestion that a function be held in the shape of a public ball in the Town Hall of Masterton. the organisation and support of this ball to come not only from all public-minded bodies and citizens in Masterton. but also from all towns and districts in the Wairarapa. With this object in view. I have tentatively approached several public-minded citizens in this town and their whole hearted support was readily forthcoming. Acting on their enthusiasm a tentative date (as suggested by them) was arranged to hold this ball. The date is Tuesday, May 24. In case anyone should think the time is very short for the organisation of such a function remember that the need of the flood sufferers in Hawke's Bay is very urgent. All should be very willing to assist their fellowcitizens of Hawke's Bay in their immediate distress. Trusting that your paper will give this charitable effort the supporc it deserves. —Yours, etc., J. BRADBLBY. Masterto>i, May 10.
