WEDDING

CORLETT—KAY. At the Methodist Church, Carterton, on Easter Saturday, the wedding took place of Mavis Irene, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs S. V. Kay, of Anderson’s Line, Carterton, to Clarence William, fourth son of Mr J. Corlett, of Masterton. The bride, who was escorted by her father, was attired in a beautiful gown of pearl tinted satin royal cut on slim fitting lines. The front of the bodice was rucked, forming a small yoke finished at the neck with a wreath of tiny flowers. The bell-shaped sleeves, which were twined at the wrist with silver lame, were rucked to form scallops. The skirt was tight fitting to the knees, falling in graceful folds to the feet, with a long train at the back, which was also rucked to form scallops. The front panel had rows of rucking and the waist line was finished with a silver girdle and tassels. She also wore silver shoes. Her embroidered tulle veil (which was lent by the bridegroom’s sister, Mrs A. Barnes), was held in place by a wreath of orange blossom and trailed well back from a second train. She carried a beautiful sheaf bouquet of cream dahlias and roses, with asparagus and maiden hair fern.

The bridesmaids were Miss Joyce Smith, Carterton, cousin (chief), and Miss Lynley Kay, Wellington, niece. Mr A. Kay, brother of the bride, was best man, and Mr H. Corlett, brother of the bridegroom, groomsman. The officiating minister was the Rev H. White, and Mrs Nightingale presided at the organ. A large number of guests attended' the reception in the Carterton band room where the usual toasts were honoured. The guests were received by the bride’s mother and by the stepmother of the bridegroom. Later a dance was held in the Clareville Hall. Mr and Mrs Corlett have taken up their residence in Masterton.
