FOREIGN POLICY
COURAGE TO FACE FACTS It is essential that British foreign policy should be founded on common sense and should not be led astray by a foolish knight-errantry, says the "Daily Mail.” There has been much talk of “courage” in the conduct of foreign affairs. But the essence of courage is a cool weighing of every circumstance before action is taken. It is not rash foolhardiness or reckless obstinacy. In the Great War two of the countries now joined in the Ber-lin-Rome-Tokio axis—ltaly and Japan —fought on Britain’s side. Had they been ranged against us, who can tell what the result might have been?
