LONDON QUOTATIONS BUTTER MARKET FIRM The London butter market was firm last week, according to the report supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department to the Dairy Board. Friday’s closing prices, with those for the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: — New Zealand, salted, 128 s to 129 s (128 s to 1295; a year ago, 104 s); unsalted, 130 s (1295, a year ago, 106 s). Australian, salted, 127 s to 128 s (127 s to 128 s); unsalted, 128 s to 129 s (127 s to 128 s). Danish, 108 s f.0.b., 130 s spot (107 s 128 s). Dutch, unsalted, 125 s to 127 s (125 s to 1265). Lithuanian, salted, 128 s to 1295. Retail prices are Is 4d a lb for New Zealand, and Is 3d for Danish. The quantity of New Zealand butter in store was 5505 tons, as against 6031 tons a year ago. Australian butter in store amounted to 5117 tons, compared with 5578 tons a year ago. The basic rates fixed under the New Zealand guaranteed price scheme, subject to quality differentials, are 123 s 8d for butter, and 70s 41d for cheese per cwt, f.0.b., New Zealand currency. The equivalent landed price for butter in London is 112 s, and for cheese 675. The guaranteed price for butter is equal to 13.25 d per lb., f.0.b., and the current London quotation is equal to 15.45 d. New Zealand ports. The equivalent price for cheese is around 7.74 d per lb., f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 7.54 d. The cheese market was quiet. Closing quotations, with those for the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: — New Zealand, white, 68s 6d (68s to 68s 6d; a year ago, 70s); coloured, 69s (68s 6d to 695; a year ago, 70s). Australian, white, 66s to 67s (66s to 675); coloured, 67s to 68s (66s to 67s 6d). Canadian, white and coloured, 77s to 78s (77s to 78s). '
