MARTINBOROUGH
BOROUGH MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special). The monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor (Mr W. B. Martin) was in the chair, and there were also present: Councillors M. W. Hardie (treasurer), J. G. Mahood, C. R. Holmes, S. Boyd, P. R. Plummer, G. P. Cotter, M. Mulvaney. Leave of absence was granted to Councillor Smith. . A letter was received from the Min® ister of Transport enclosing posters for distribution to children regarding road safety. The council decided to distribute the posters under Councillor Cotter’s supervision. The Featherston County Council wrote endorsing the resolution regarding water connection to those outside the borough. — The Public Works 1 Department wrote that on account of heavy commitments no further increase in the main highways could be considered this year. Money received since the last meeting totalled £lOO 2s 3d. Accounts amounting to £684 8s 9d were passed for payment. The ranger reported having dealt with 2 head of stock during the month. A motion was carried that the Mayor’s honorarium be fixed at £25. It was resolved that the pound fees board be relettered. MR SKILL’S ACCIDENT. ' At Monday night’s meeting of the council the Mayor and councillors made sympathetic reference to the unfortunate accident which Councillor Skill had sustained. A motion of sympathy with him was passed.
