DR. ECKENER’S BIRTHDAY PROJECT. QUESTION OF HELIUM SUPPLIES. NEW YORK, May 7. Dr Hugo Eckener arrived from Germany with the object of persuading the United States to allow the shipment of helium to Germany. He hopes to cross the Atlantic in a new airship on August 10, his seventieth birthdy. A message from Washington on April 22 stated;—The Secretary of the Interior, Mi’ H. L. Icke, stated that the United States will not permit the helium shipment of 18,000,000 cubic feet to Germany. He added that the State Department and army and navy experts have established that the sale of such a quantity of gas would constitue a supply of military importance.
