TRUST ELECTION
MR DAVID CASELBERG RETIRING. LONG RECORD OF SERVICE. Mr David Caselberg, who was elected to the Trust Lands Trust in 1907 and except for a break of one year has served continuously on the Trust ever since, has definitely decided not to seek re-election at the forthcoming poll. During his term of office, Mr Caselberg has twice served, for yearlyperiods in each case; as chairman of the Trust, and his record of service in a period of 31 years is a creditable one indeed.
It is interesting to recall that at the time Mr Caselberg was first elected to the Trust there was considerable controversy regarding an exchange of land with the Police Department. At that time the Trust offices were located on the site of the present Police Station, and the police quarters and Court were in Queen Street and Lincoln Road. As the result of the exchange, the Trust gave the site of the present Court buildings and that of the present Police Station and sergeant’s residence to the Government, together with about £lOO in cash, in return for the Queen Street section on which the Trust Lands Trust building now stands.
At the same poll as that in which Mr Caselberg was elected in 1907, Messrs E. G. Eton, W. H. Jackson and R. Krahagcn also took their seats for the first time. These three are still members of the Trust. Nominations for the three vacancies on the Trust close on Friday at noon and a poll will be taken, if necessary, on Thursday, May 26. The other retiring candidates are Messrs J. Macfarlane Laing (chairman). and L. J. Taylor, both of whom are seeking re-election.
