Improved Sports Ground.

The Mayor of Wanganui. Mr W. J. Rogers, officially opened the Spriggens Park improvements on Saturday afternoon. Mr J. B. Cotterill, M.P. for Wanganui, was also present. The improvements at Spriggens Park constituted the largest job of its kind ever undertaken in Wanganui. The whole of the playing area has been lowered two feet, and the surplus spoil used to erect' series of grassed terraces round the grounds. The work has been carried out since the close of last season by the Wanganui City Council with unemployed labour subsidies by the Government. It is estimated that the improvements have increased the capacity of the ground from about 7000 to at least 20,000. and in addition there is ample room left for the erection of further terraces or temporary stands.
