WAIRARAPA HOCKEY

SECOND SERIES OF GAMES. INTERESTING PLAY. The second series of games in the Wairarapa Hockey Association championship fixtures was played on Saturday, conditions again being ideal. In the men’s senior division, Greytown were unable to muster a team, and forfeited to Carterton. On the Carterton grounds, Kiwi and Dalefield played a drawn game, 4 alt Kiwi had a strong team and were continually on the attack, but erratic goalshooting was their downfall. Dalefield fielded a much stronger team than on the previous week, and put up a solid defence. The forwards did not get their share of the play, but made the most of the opportunities offering. Fine solo efforts.- by Hooper, however, enabled Dalefield to even the score, while Tildesley in goal made some wonderful saves in keeping Kiwi’s tally down. In the junior division, College A disposed of Wesley B to the tune of 8/0, while Wesley A finished up with a 9/0 win over College B. At Carterton, Dalefield defeated Greytown by 4/1. RESULTS. ' f -' Senior. - : Kiwi and Dalefield drew, 4/4. Carterton won from Greytown by default. Wesley A, bye.

The Wairarapa Women’s Association’s games were continued on Saturday, when some very good form was witnessed. Most interest was centred in the Excelsior v. Greytown match. This was played at Lansdowne, and resulted in a win for Excelsior by 4 goals to nil. Misses N. Page (2) and E. Madsen (2) scored the goals. Greytown, who were making thdir first appearance this season, were unable to keep up with the pace set. Kia Ora were disappointing after their display of the previous week against College, and could only draw with Carterton, 1 all. Kia Ora dominated the play, but the forwards could not find the net. Kiwi defeated College by 3/0 at the College grounds, after a very indifferent display. Positional play is Kiwi’s weakness, especially among the forwards, who were seen everywhere but in their right places.
