Wallaby shooting in Kelcy’s Bush, at the head of the Waimate Creek, Canterbury, one of the few places in New Zealand where the animals run wild, has become increasingly popular in the last few years, and a party which went there during the Easter holidays was one of the most successful so far. The party, which consisted of Messrs J. O’Brien, K. Sams, C. Sinclair, J. Sinclair, W. Sinclair, H. Vincent and E. Vincent (Christchurch), and P. Cutler (Waimate), spent two days in the bush and shot 24 wallabies. Mr Cutler said that one of the animals measured about 6ft 6in from the end of its tail to its head, and was the biggest he had seen in the bush. The animals were very plentiful, he said, and there were prospects of a record season.
