MOTOR=SHIP ASHORE
♦ ON REEF OFF QUEENSLAND COAST. BRISBANE, May 5. The Port Line motor-ship Port Saint John, bound for Gladstone (Queensland) from Wellington, grounded on a reef at Lady Elliot Island. The coastal steamer Canonbar is standing by. A tug will leave Brisbane today to assist the ship. The Port Saint John, a vessel of 5820 tons, is one of three new motorships built to the order of the Port Line, Limited, for the Montreal-Aus-tralia-New Zealand Line’s service, the others being the Port Halifax and Port Montreal. Lady Elliot Islet is a small coral island, 45 miles north-west from the lighthouse on Sandy Cape, and close to the entrance to the Great Barrier Reefs. DANGEROUS WATERS. VESSEL STANDING BY ALSO GROUNDED. BRISBANE, May 6. The steamer Canonbar, standing by the grounded Port Saint John, itself grounded on Inskip Point.
