SWIFT PLANE

BRITISH HURRICANE FIGHTER FASTEST IN THE WORLD LARGE ORDERS PLACED (British Official Wireless). RUGBY, May 4. One of the most arresting exhibits in the Royal Air Force pavilion at the Glasgow Exhibition is a new Hawker Hurricane single-seat fighter monoplane, exactly similar to that in which Squadron Leader Gillan made a night flight of 327 miles from Edinburgh to London in 48 minutes. According to the Air Ministry the Hurricane flies easily despite its high performance, and lands at 60 miles an hour —qualities which enable it to be handled safely and without difficulty by pilot. The maximum tijie level speed may therefore be reckoned at not less than 330 miles an hour, which classes the Hurricane as the fastest military aeroplane yet in service anywhere in the world.

The orders placed for Hurricanes constitute in the aggregate the largest ever placed-for any fighter aircraft in peace time.
