Mr V. M. Edgar has been elected a member of the Wellington Fire Board by the fire insurance companies. Mr W. A. Palmer, of Solway, flew to Nelson where he is spending a short vacation.

Mr B. L. Dallard has been elected Chief Savage of the Wellington Savage Club for the current season.

The Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, returned to Wellington from the South Island to-day. Mr W. H. King, of the Wellington staff, has been appointed supervisor of the clerical branch of the Masterton Post Office. The funeral of the late Mrs E. Allen, of Masterton, took place on Tuesday, the interment being at the Wallaceville Cemetery. There was a large attendance of mourners, including many old residents of Wallaceville and district. A large number of beautiful wreaths were sent by sympathisers. The officiating minister was the Rev D. McNeur.

There was a large attendance at the funeral of the late Mrs C. Hayes, which took place in Masterton on Wednesday afternoon. The many beautiful wreaths received indicated the esteem in which she was held. Mr C. H. Skuse, of the Kuripuni Methodist Church, conducted the service. The pall-bearers were Messrs T. Connolly, J. Whall, P. Shaw, S. Allen, S. Butcher and L, Butcher. Mr J. Robertson, member for Masterton, is to attend a rally of the Eketahuna branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association this evening. With other members of the Parliamentary Committee on National Health and Superannuation, Mr Robertson is at present busily engaged in digesting the voluminous evidence submitted at the public sittings which have now concluded. He is to return to Wellington early next week, and the committee will resume meetings during the week to consider its report. Mr Felix Swinstead, F.R.A.M., who is to visit New Zealand shortly as examiner for the associated board of the Royal Schools of Music, was born in London. He received his musical education at the Royal Academy of Music, which he entered in 1897 as the Sterndale Bennett Scholar. He later won the Thalberg Scholarship, besides several prizes for pianoforte and composition. Mr Swinstead is well known as a composer of pianoforte music and studies, and his works include a symphony, two overtures and some songs, in addition to some 200 published pieces for pianoforte. He has also given many recitals and lectures. Since 1910 Mr Swinstead has been a professor at the Royal Academy of Music. He has also acted as examiner for the associated board of the Royal Schools of Music for many years, examining in Great Britain, and has also visited Canada, the West Indies and South Africa in that capacity. He will reach New Zealand early in July. .
