A small boy was asked by his master to describe the Order of the Bath. “It’s very ancient,” he replied, “it goes back to the time when they didn’t take no baths except by order.”
The fact that there was a smaller number of orphan children in New Zealand in 1936 than in 1926 is shown in the latest Abstract of Statistics. The same trend has been noticeable for the past 15 -years. Ninety-four per cent of New Zealand children are fortunate in having both their parents living, according to the latest survey. The percentage with both parents dead is only 1.3, those with only their mother living 3.44 per cent, and with only their father living, 2.25 per cent. All these figures show decreases since 1926.
