MAORI’S DEATH

RUN OVER BY TAXI. (By Telegraph —Press Association). GISBORNE, May 5. The death occurred at Tokomaru Bay last evening of a Maori watersider, Wi Huihui, who met with an accident in unusual circumstances. A taxidriver was travelling along the Beach Road when he ran over something. Thinking it was a log he stopped with the intention of removing it, but found Huihui lying badly injured.

It is not known how Huihui came to be on the road or the extent to which his injuries are due to the car. Dr Grant was summoned from Te Puea, but was considerably delayed because of the damage to the road by slips and floods. Despite medical attention Huihui died later.
