MOTOR RELICENSING
PLATES NOW AVAILABLE. Post Office staffs have commenced to deal with the task of issuing the new number plates for motor-vehicles in connection with the annual relicensing, which must be completed in time to use the green and white plates on June 1.
As private cars have increased in numbers by nearly ten per cent since the previous relicensing, and the gross total of motor-vehicles is now approximately 282,000, it will be realised by motor-owners that by co-operating with the Post Office and avoiding a last -minute application, they will relieve congestion in the office. This year’s forms, except for the variation in third-party insurance rates recently announced, are the same as those of the previous year. It is still necessary for the motor-owner to include in his application the engine number and the chassis number of the vehicle, although these have been previously mentioned on licensing applications. The reason is that these numbers form the only really permanent identification mark on a motorvehicle.
Persons and firms owning four or more motor-vehicles can save time in the relicensing process by submitting the application forms in advance. The Post Office will then carry out its check, allocate the number plates to each vehicle and prepare a statement of the fees. When these are paid the plates are handed over the process is complete.
