FEATHERSTON
PAINFUL ACCIDENT. (“Times-Age” Special.) A very painful accident befell Miss Lucy Hood, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Hood, Kahautara, last Thursday, when she had the misfortune to have her index finger torn off at the first joint, through becoming entangled in the 'harness of a horse, the horse pulling away from her suddenly, with the above result. Miss Hood was taken to “Kelvin” private hospital where she was attended by Dr Sharp, and has now recovered sufficiently to return to her home. A FINE RECORD. Mr S. Murphy must.be able to claim a record as a school committee man, as he has been on the Featherston school committee continuously for 41 years. SHOOTING SEASON.
A most unusual sight was noticed on Saturday afternoon about 4.30 when flocks of wild duck were seen flying northward over the Tauheranikau plain. This fact probably accounts for the smallness of the shooters “bags” obtained at the opening of the season on Monday. The fact that an unusually large number of sportsmen were camped at the Lake may have disturbed the birds and caused their flight.
PERSONAL. In appreciation of her services, as leader of the Junior Reading Circle, members of the Club met on Monday night and presented Mrs Still .with a small token of their esteem. Mrs Still, who will shortly leave Featherston, has devoted considerable time to the affairs of the circle and she will be greatly missed by members. ' At the meeting of Featherston householders regret was expressed at the fact that Mr and Mrs Still were leaving Featherston. Mr Still has been on the school teaching staff during the past two years. On the motion of Miss Card a vote of thanks was passed to those who made the wreathe for Anzac Day, including Mrs Rea who always made the Armistice Day wreath. .
