LIEUTENANT-GOVERNOR REFUSES TO RETIRE. CABINET* TAKING ACTION. (Recd This Day, 12.45 p.m.) EDMONTON, May 3. Defying an order by the Social Credit Government to vacate his office, the Lieutenant-Governor, Mr J. C. Bowen, remained in Government House today, despite a Government announcement that he would receive no pay and the further upkeep of light, telephone and motoring services had been ordered to be terminated. Mr Bowen notified the Cabinet that his office can only be made vacant by an Order-in-Council, which the Lieu-tenant-Governor must sign. He has no intention of signing.
