Mr J. L. Bruce, representing the Connors-Paul Revue Company, is in Masterton making final arrangements for the company’s appearance at the Regent Theatre on Friday night. An Auckland telegram states that for the purpose of attending a meeting of the Australian Agricultural Council, the Minister of Agriculture, Hon W. Lee Martin, left Auckland by the Aorangi for Sydney. The meeting will begin at Canberra next Tuesday, and the Minister will return to New Zealand by the Awatea on May 26, after visiting some of the agricultural districts of New South Wales. When he left Auckland yesterday he was accompanied by the Director-General of Agriculture, Mr A, H, Cockayne, and by his private secretary, Mr W. R. King. One of Taranaki’s best-known footballers and a noted athlete, Mr Alan Good, died at Hawera at the age of 70, states a Press Association message from New Plymouth. In his later years he was a well-known farmer and a land valuer. He was an All Black, a member of the first Taranaki representative Rugby team, and one of the outstanding runners of his time over distances from 100 yards to 440 yards. Mr Good was president of the Opunake Racing Club. Born at Urenui in 1867, Mr Good was one of four brothers, Hugh, Willie, Harry and Alan, who made names as footballers. Educated at Wanganui Collegiate School, he played for Taranaki from 1887 until 1899. He was one of Taranaki’s first three All Blacks, accompanying the second New Zealand team to visit Australia in 1893.
